Crow and Beyond

Crow pose is a versatile pose that is the bridge to many other arm balances.  It is the building block of arm balances and is a posture that can be modified, varied, and upleveled to all skill levels.  Your workshop experience will be personalized for your skill level and will focus on crow pose and other postures such as side crow, dwipada, eka pada koundinyasana 1 and 2, elephant trunk, eight angle pose, shoulder pressure pose, and/or firefly.  You will gain confidence in your arm balances and have fun shifting weight onto your hands and off your feet!

This CORE INTENSIVE, instructional, and hands-on workshop goes beyond just your abs and basic yoga and fitness cues and dives in deeper.  You will learn where your core muscles are and ACTIVATE & INTEGRATE them to stabilize your body in movement and gain strength with every breath you take.

Facilitated by Yoga Kim: I focus on functional movement from an anatomical focus.  My over 35 years of experience with a wide range of individuals from professional athletes to those with injuries coupled with my extensive education gives me a unique perspective.  I focus on hip, ribcage, foot & shoulder alignment to build proper foundation from head to toe, so you can utilize full respiration and properly activate and integrate core muscles.  This builds strength through range of motion, so you enjoy improved physical movement and more ease in your daily life!
Education:  Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with an Exercise Physiology emphasis.  Masters in International Management.  200 Hour Teacher Training.  
Experience:  Over 35 years of experience in the health industry including personal trainer of professional athletes, public speaker on such topics as wellness and nutrition, gymnastics instructor, and yoga teacher at retreats, workshops, classes, privates, and 200 hour teacher training.

Mellow Flow with Yoga Nidra


Unwind, Restore, Renew. Mellow Flow is our cooler and slower paced alternative to Power Flow. This class starts with Journey Into Power flow with slower transitions and finishes with Yin Yoga where postures are held for longer periods. The more gentle nature of this class is great for beginners and also wonderful for intermediate students who want to slow it down and sink deeper into their practice. Room is lightly heated to 80 degrees. This special 75 minute class will end with a long savasana and 25 minutes of Yoga Nidra. 

 

Yoga Nidra, or Yoga Sleep, is a powerful meditation technique in which the practitioner lays comfortably in savasana, and experienced a state of consciousness between sleeping and awake, similar to the "going-to-sleep" stage. In this state, the body is completely relaxed, as the practitioner is guided through a systematic meditation. Yoga Nidra is for everyone and there is no wrong way to do it. Falling asleep is common, as you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice. There are countless benefits to Yoga Nidra, including helping to activate the relaxation response and improving the functioning of the nervous system and endocrine system, which affect hormones. It helps cells regenerate and repair, and decreases anxiety, reduces stress, and promotes deep rest. This practice is being used at increasing rates in those suffering from trauma, Traumatic Brian Injury, chronic pain, and insomnia. It is said that 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 2-4 hours of REM sleep, leaving you feeling relaxed and rested.

*recommended that you bring your own pillow(s), blankets, and props to maximize your comfort.

Your unique body responds to different types of stretching for different reasons. Kim will help you determine what stretching techniques will give you the best results for your body and why.  The “why” is important if you want results, and then how to apply these stretches into your daily life, yoga sessions, and fitness routines.

 

This 2-hour workshop is not only instructional but also is a hands-on, personalized and interactive stretching experience that includes dynamic stretching through yoga flow and PNF, Assisted stretching, and guided Yin.  You will stretch your:

● Hamstrings

● Hip flexors

● Inner and Outer thighs

● Upper and Lower back

● Shoulders

 

You will also receive a worksheet that maps out the stretching techniques that work best for your body, as well as, set up an appointment with Kim for a personalized 30 minute Assisted Stretch Session.  You will again be guided and stretched, but this time 1-on-1 with Kim to receive the full benefit of building upon what you have experienced in this workshop and have the opportunity to ask any additional questions.
